An October 21 overview identifies regional networking, university-linked business assistance and technology partnerships that Wisconsin founders can approach at different stages.
Wisconsin founders seeking mentors or help turning research into a business have several routes through regional and university-linked organizations, the Wisconsin Economic Development Corporation said in an October 21 resource overview.
In northeastern Wisconsin, New North’s Launch Alliance brings founders together with investors, educators and other business-support organizations. WEDC says monthly meetings and pitch competitions offer ways to meet people who can help with business development.
For technology companies, the Center for Technology Commercialization provides consulting and training at no charge, according to WEDC. The center belongs to the Universities of Wisconsin Office of Business & Entrepreneurship and helps businesses prepare federal small-business research funding applications. Through Founder Factory, the center and regional partners connect university intellectual property with teams exploring commercial uses.
What it means
The appropriate starting point depends on the business: a founder looking for local contacts has different needs from a researcher assessing a potential company. These are support and networking resources. The overview does not establish that an individual business qualifies for financing or that a federal funding round is open.
