June 23, 2023 · Source: National Park Service
The National Park Service is recruiting volunteers to participate in a new park initiative called Trails and Rails. Volunteers will travel on Amtrak's Cardinal route as it travels through the gorge from Montgomery to Hinton, WV and represent the park by answering questions, distributing maps and brochures, and presenting various educational programs onboard. Interested individuals should contact New River Gorge National Park and Preserve Volunteer Coordinator Adrienne Jenkins. The program is projected to start in September of 2024.
