New River Gorge National Park & Preserve will host a public ceremony to induct the Burnwood Trail into the Old-Growth Forest Network on Friday, August 4, at 2:00 pm. Recent research at the Burnwood Trail was conducted by Dr. Tom Saladyga and eight undergraduate students from Concord University in Athens, West Virginia. Their research confirms that roughly 12 acres of the forest at Burnwood is classified as old-growth. The oldest sampled trees date back to the 1670s. After the dedication ceremony, there will be an optional 1.2 mile easy to moderate hike.
