Speaker Carl Heastie today continued his annual statewide tour in Suffolk County, visiting the village of Greenport’s Third Street basketball court with Assemblymember Tommy John Schiavoni and announcing a total of $2.65 million for needed upgrades to community recreational spaces and local wastewater infrastructure.
“The Assembly Majority will always work to ensure local governments have the resources they need to effectively and reliably serve their communities,” said Speaker Heastie. “I thank Assemblymember Schiavoni for showing me this great Long Island community and for being a voice for its many residents that rely on its municipal infrastructure and community resources such as the basketball park every day.”
“From reliable municipal infrastructure to accessible recreational facilities like Greenport’s Third Street basketball court, I will always work hard to ensure that our District 1 communities have the tools and resources they need to thrive,” said Assemblymember Schiavoni. “It was good to show Speaker Heastie all the work the village of Greenport does for its residents and the surrounding area day in and day out.”
Speaker Heastie and Assemblymember Schiavoni were joined by local elected officials for a visit to the village of Greenport’s Third Street basketball court. Together, they announced a total of $2.65 million in state funding for upgrades to municipal infrastructure and recreational spaces, including $2.15 million for needed improvements to the century-old wastewater infrastructure that serves the surrounding community and $500,000 for three community parks throughout the village. The total funding amount for wastewater treatment and infrastructure improvements is expected to cost $10 million, which the Assembly Majority intends to request in the 2027-28 state budget.
